DeLand, Florida

A few months ago I met my aunt for coffee in DeLand.

Boston Coffehouse was my choice place to meet because when you’re a Yankee living in the south coffee and Boston in the same title draws you in like a moth to a flame.

After our visit and visiting a few stores we said goodbye.

I still had time to burn before I needed to pick up Aubry from school so I hit the streets of DeLand. I pulled up my trusty google map app and walked to the closest green space.

Chess Park

Bring your chess, or checkers pieces and enjoy a game

If you drive through DeLand on Route 44 then you’ve passed this park. Chess Park is on the north side of Route 44 about a half a block west of Woodland Blvd.

Love the detail in the fence posts

I walked though Chess Park to W. Indianna Ave, past the Volusia County Courthouse to Athens Theatre.

Always take a selfie if you’re by yourself, it’s good to have photos with people in them!!

I then double backed on W. Indiana and walked around the long reflection pool  on my left. Then it was back to Woodland Blvd where I weaved in and out of some interesting shops, a record store and quickly past Mr Bill’s Donuts, because I was trying to avoid donuts that day…. I plan to return.

Downtown DeLand has a New England feel to it.
One of the many murals in DeLand.

DeLand has a wonderful Mural Walk you can take, click here to view the map or better yet read my post and tips on the mural walk here.

My time was short, however if I visit again I will be sure to walk the Stetson campus, grab a few Geocaches, stop in at the DeLand Bakery and see what the Goodwill has to offer.

If you go and need a lunch spot then Taco Amigo, corner of N. Florida Ave and Woodland at an auto shop on Woodland Ave, is the place to go. It’s been called a “hidden gem”. Closed Monday and Tuesday, great prices, great food.

I’m sure there’s lots more to see and I hope to visit again soon. If you’ve been and have some favorite places let me know.

Happy trails,
